Result: No improvements to the issues raised for over a month. Delisted. ~~ AirshipJungleman29 (talk) 16:28, 26 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

A GA from 2009. My main problem for this isn't sourcing (though there is the occasional uncited sentence) but rather it's lack of updates. Most sections, aside from history, end off at 2010 max, making some of the article outdated in way. The history section also has some weird sentences like

  • "The Second Intifada was a major gamechanger in Gaza, too.[citation needed]" (Game changer?)
  • "A tower block was bombed in the 2021 Israel–Palestine crisis.[72]" (importance?)

This could probably be easily fixed however. Onegreatjoke (talk) 17:50, 7 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@Onegreatjoke: Removed some unsourced statements, which were about the Strip in general, not the City specifically. Will go through the entire article soon and also attempt to update it for developments in the last 12 years. Al Ameer (talk) 03:04, 9 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Al Ameer son, do you intend to edit this article more? ~~ AirshipJungleman29 (talk) 01:31, 21 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@AirshipJungleman29: Yes, other than some cleaning and c/e, I intend to update it. Requesting 2 weeks for this. —Al Ameer (talk) 01:44, 21 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Two weeks should not be a problem. Thanks for working on it :). —Femke 🐦 (talk) 16:15, 21 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Al Ameer son: can you give us an update? Very happy to give you another few days to start the work: articles that are actively being worked on can stay open, even if the work is slow. Otherwise, we'll likely move to delist (and hopefully get is back as a GAN later). —Femke 🐦 (talk) 08:46, 5 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Femke: Being that the main issues raised here have been updating the article, this can be done within a week or so. The problem had been finding sources, but I believe the Pal census stats will cover a good portion of this information. My apologies for the slow start. Extended-confirmed-protected edit request on 24 February 2024[edit]

GAZA IS STILL THE LARGEST CITY OF PALESTINE. BEFORE HAMAS-ISRAEL WAR IT IS STILL THE LARGEST CITY OF PALESTINE. 38.253.8.42 (talk) 03:40, 24 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

The thing is right now Rafah is inundated by refugees and so has more people in it, so Gaza City isn't really currently most populous. I've reworded now by saying most populous instead of largest, since it's physical size hasn't changed. Em3rgent0rdr (talk) 08:06, 24 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Image of destruction should be moved and a general image of the city should be used per Wikipedia:Recentism 172.99.147.181 (talk) 00:49, 25 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Ancient Egyptian Name[edit]

The article currently states:

According to Shahin, the Ancient Egyptians called it gḏt, "Ghazzat" ("prized city")...

(originally added in this edit in 2009.)

As far as I understand, Mariam Shahin is not an academic researcher (she is a filmmaker and a journalist, without a Wikipedia article about her); neither ancient Egypt or etymology are her areas of expertise, and the book "Palestine: A Guide" is not an academic research. I don't think this is a reliable source on the subject. 2A0D:6FC2:6C71:6C00:749F:EA20:5036:E5E7 (talk) 20:19, 4 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Provide a better book then. Iskandar323 (talk) 20:23, 4 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Twinned with Tel Aviv[edit]

I have been unable to verify citation 187, and in general the fact that Gaza City and Tel Aviv are sister cities. Furthermore, this was added to the article during the 2008-2009 Palestine-Israel conflict. The only thing that makes me trust that it was added in good faith is that it was added by a well-respected editor of Palestinian ancestry (Al Ameer son).
