Wikipedia:Main Page/Errors

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

To report an error in content currently or imminently on the Main Page, use the appropriate section below.

  • Where is the error? An exact quotation of the text in question helps.
  • Offer a correction if possible.
  • References are helpful, especially when reporting an obscure factual or grammatical error.
  • Time zones. The Main Page runs on Coordinated Universal Time (UTC, currently 17:01 on 21 May 2024) and is not adjusted to your local time zone.
  • Can you resolve the problem yourself? If the error lies primarily in the content of an article linked from the Main Page, fix the problem there before reporting it here. Text on the Main Page generally defers to the articles with bolded links. Upcoming content on the Main Page is usually only protected from editing beginning 24 hours before its scheduled appearance. Before that period, you can be bold and fix any issues yourself.
  • Do not use {{edit fully-protected}} on this page, which will not get a faster response. It is unnecessary, because this page is not protected, and causes display problems, because this is not a talk page. (See the bottom of this revision for an example.)
  • No chit-chat. Lengthy discussions should be moved to a suitable location elsewhere, such as the talk page of the relevant article or project.
  • Respect other editors. Another user wrote the text you want changed, or reported an issue they see in something you wrote. Everyone's goal should be producing the best Main Page possible. The compressed time frame of the Main Page means sometimes action must be taken before there has been time for everyone to comment. Be civil to fellow users.
  • Reports are removed when resolved. Once an error has been addressed, determined not to be an error, or the item has rotated off the Main Page, the report will be removed from this page. Check the revision history for a record of any discussion or action taken; no archives are kept.

Current DYK[edit]

  • No real issues but some of the blurbs would be helped by some wikilinks. ... that Richard Garwin proposed using a bed of nails to protect the Minuteman missile silos from attack? should link Richard Garwin as him being a physicist is probably germane.
... that the trowel and gavel used at the cornerstone-laying ceremony for the Southern Railway Building were previously used by George Washington for the U.S. Capitol?. I'd link George Washington and U.S. Capitol since the blurb as it currently stands presupposes a knowledge of US history and government that is generally not assumed. Sincerely, Dilettante 00:14, 21 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Hello, nominator of Southern Railway Building here. I opted for the generally minimalistic linking philosophy that I've perceived to be preferred at DYK. While I considered the suggested links to be mostly self-evident, I admit my American bias and would not object to them being added to the hook. DrOrinScrivello (talk) 03:31, 21 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
  • In the Spider (musician) blurb, Alternative music is a disambiguation page. Should the link point to a specific article? Linking a dab page from the main page seems a bit odd.:Jay8g [VTE] 03:35, 21 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Jay8g, unlinked. @Launchballer, would you like to suggest a more useful link than that to the set index page alternative music? (As an aside, perhaps that page should be marked as a disambiguation page?) —Kusma (talk) 09:17, 21 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Why is this the sixth consecutive article of mine to end up either here or at WT:DYK... anyway, I suggest alternative rock#alt-pop, as alt-pop is what NME describe her stuff as.--Launchballer 09:34, 21 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Today's POTD[edit]

The text of today's POTD (May 21) has an extra "has" in the sentence: "The snail has has two distinct sexes...". Maybe remove one "has" from the WL to Dioecy? Harris7 (talk) 10:14, 21 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Done, thanks! —Kusma (talk) 12:27, 21 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
